NBA Legend Magic Johnson To Build School In Chicago

Earvin ‘Magic’ Johnson is giving back to the youths of Chicago with the planned opening of alternative schools in city’s most at-risk communities.Johnson is planning to open two Magic Johnson Bridgescape Academies in the South Shore and North/South Lawndale neighborhoods, according to NBC Chicago.The schools reportedly places a special emphasis on students aged 13-21 who have dropped out of high school or are at risk of not graduating.According the school’s website, Magic Johnson Bridgescape provides students the “support and direction to overcome obstacles experienced in a traditional high school environment.”The school touts a “customized program” that boasts highly trained counselors that assist in getting students back on track.In addition to a high school diploma, the program will guide students to “finding a career, enrolling in college or completing a technical degree.”There are 15 academies open across the country, with majority located in Ohio.Tuition is free for accepted students and acceptance into program is on first-come, first serve basis
